“Jaynie consistently goes above and beyond, and her commitment to both public engagement and science is truly remarkable,” said Jan Mackinnon, Gaskin’s supervisor who nominated her as EOQ. “Her passion for wetlands conservation shines through in every project she undertakes, and her leadership, technical expertise, and collaborative spirit have been instrumental in the success of both the Career Academy, the barrier assessment project, and numerous other initiatives she has been involved with.”

Gaskin’s dedication to nurturing the next generation of environmental stewards is evident in her leadership role with the DNR Career Academy. Furthermore, Gaskin’s meticulous work on the Aquatic Species Barrier Assessment is playing an important role in measuring the health of our marine ecosystems. Her comprehensive assessment of culverts, bridges, and other aquatic barriers have identified critical infrastructure upgrades, allowing the DNR and other partners to prioritize projects that will improve fish passage and restore natural water flow, ultimately supporting thriving fish populations and coastal resilience.

“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition,” said Gaskin. “Working at the CRD allows me to combine my passion for the environment with a desire to make a tangible difference. It’s truly rewarding to see our efforts translate into positive outcomes for the ecosystems and communities we serve.”
