With summer in full swing, Georgia beaches throughout the Golden Isles are popular destinations for visitors and residents. As a kick-off for the Golden Isles annual 4th of July celebration, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host the 16th annual Beach Week event. Island beach-goers can learn about the natural wonders of the coast on Monday, June 27, on the Jekyll Island Village Green, Tuesday, June 28, at the old Coast Guard Station beach access area on St. Simons Island, at the Tybee Island Marine Science Center June 29 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.
A highlight of this year’s event will be the showcase of Living Shorelines, their purpose, habitat and resources.
Exhibitors joining Georgia DNR's Coastal Resources and Law Enforcement divisions for Beach Week will be the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Tidelands Nature Center, UGA MAREX/Sea Grant, Keep Golden Isles Beautiful, Glynn County Recreation and Parks and the Department of Public Health, Burton and Jekyll Island 4-H, Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge and Jekyll Island Authority Conservation.
