Tybee Island beach-goers can learn more about the natural wonders of the Georgia coast as part of the area’s annual 4th of July celebration when the Georgia DNR hosts “Beach Week”. A highlight of this year’s event will be the DNR’s Georgia Coastal Management Program – celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2018. Tybee Island visitors can experience Beach Week at the Tybee Marine Science Center Parking Lot on Thursday, June 28th from 10am to 3pm.
Joining GA DNR/Coastal Resources and Law Enforcement Divisions will be exhibitors from Grays Reef National Marine Sanctuary, UGA Marine Extension Service, Ft. Stewart Fish and Wildlife Branch, Department of Public Health and Tybee Marine Science Center.
DNR will also be showcasing the new Marine Habitat License Plate. Available now through local tag offices in Georgia, residents have an opportunity to help enhance coastal fish and wildlife populations through the purchase of this specialty license plate for their vehicle and boat trailer. Sales proceeds from the marine habitat plate featuring a red drum go into a dedicated fund to restore and enhance fish habitat in Georgia’s estuaries and the Atlantic Ocean.
