Latest Beach Swimming Advisory Information

GLYNN COUNTY, GA – The Glynn County Health Department has lifted the advisories for
The Glynn County Health Department has issued advisories for South Beach at the Lighthouse
(9th Street to the pier), East Beach at the old Coast Guard station (Tenth St. East to Driftwood
Drive), and Massengale Park Beach (Driftwood Drive to Cedar Street) on St. Simons Island, d.
Driftwood Beach (from beach kilometer marker 1 to Tallu Fish Lane) on Jekyll Island.
The advisories were issued on December 4 after routine water quality tests showed a high level
of enterococci bacteria which increase the risk of gastrointestinal illness in swimmers.
Subsequent water samples taken showed that the bacteria levels had dropped below
Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended limits. Therefore, the advisory has been
lifted.


CHATHAM COUNTY, GA – The Chatham County Health Department has lifted the advisory
for Polk Street Beach (the northernmost part of Tybee Island at the mouth of the Savannah River
from the end of the beach to the jetty) on Tybee Island.
The advisory was issued on December 4 after routine water quality tests showed a high level of
enterococci bacteria which increase the risk of gastrointestinal illness in swimmers.
Subsequent water samples taken showed that the bacteria levels had dropped below
Environmental Protection Agency’s recommended limits. Therefore, the advisory has been
lifted.
