The Coastal Resources Division invites young anglers and their families to enjoy a day of saltwater fishing fun during the annual Kids Fishing Event, scheduled for Saturday, June 7, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Sidney Lanier Fishing Pier in Brunswick.
The event is free and open to children ages 5 to 12, offering a hands-on introduction to recreational fishing along Georgia’s coast. CRD staff and marine biologists will be on hand to teach kids how to bait a hook, cast a line, and safely handle fish. No fishing experience—or fishing license—is required.
Each registered child will receive a free fishing rod, tackle, and a small tackle box to take home. All fishing equipment and bait will be provided, and lunch will also be served at no cost to participants.
The Kids Fishing Event is part of Georgia’s celebration of National Fishing and Boating Week. June 7 is one of Georgia’s free fishing days, meaning no fishing license is required for anyone fishing in the state.
Registration opens Thursday, May 1, at CoastalGaDNR.org, and space is limited. Parents or guardians must accompany their children for the duration of the event.
